Acharavi, the main village of the Municipality of Thinali, is located on the north coast, 42 km from Corfu Town. It is a beautiful location in the foothills of Mount Pantokrator, Corfu's highest peak standing at 914 meters. There is a huge choice of accommodation with hotels of all categories, as well as small attractive complex such as villas, apartments and studios. In the area there is also an abundance of bars, taverns and restaurants serving Greek specialties and international cuisine.
Acharavi, according to the legend, was originally called 'Ivi' but in 32 BC when Romans destroyed the village and killed all the young people, nothing was left. It was then known as 'Acharavi' Ivi (Acharavi in Greek means awkward). Today Acharavi is a popular tourist resort boasting crystal clear water and a very special beach. Acharavi beach, joined with the neighboring beach at Almiros, forms the longest, unbroken stretch of golden sand on the island. The area offers an extraordinary choice of either peace, tranquillity and particular natural beauty of the area around Almiros beach, or the crowds, the cosmopolitan aspect and fun on Acharavi beach with all kinds of water sports. The area is also an excellent base for exploration to Mount Pantokrator, Old Perithia, Kassiopi, and the amazing Canal D'Amour near Sidari and many other places of interest.
